A London scene that has changed considerably since the 1980s, with overhead catenary and '9F' 2-10-0s banished from the national network. 92220 'Evening Star' heads a Paddington to Old Oak Common shuttle train in connection the the maintenance depot's 75th anniversary open day on 20 September 1981. The rusting tracks of Ranelagh Bridge yard are seen to the right. This small maintenance facility for locomotives was provided in 1907 to avoid the need for locos to make the 6-mile round trip to Old Oak Common depot. There was a turntable, coaling and watering facilities, with capacity for up to 15 main line locomotives. The turntable was removed in 1964 and the depot closed in 1980.
