AE 1386 GWR1340 Alders Tamworth HB67B709

Avonside Engine Co 0-4-0ST No1386, B1897 still wearing its GWR 1340 numberplate at Alders, Tamworth, 22/4/67. The loco was initially built for Messrs Dunn & Shute at Newport Docks, it was then sold to the Alexandra Docks Railway in 1903, the ADR was then absorbed by the GWR in 1923. In 1932 the GWR sold the loco to Netherseal Colliery at Burton on Trent and her final 'working' move was to Alders in Tamworth in 1947. In 1968the locomotive was released to the Great Western Society and it now resides at Didcot at Railway Centre where it is currently on display awaiting overhaul. ©Hugh Ballantyne/Rail Photoprints
