27001 Guide Bridge 270859 IT737

Class EM2 27001 heads a Manchester (London Road) - Sheffield Victoria service through Guide Bridge, 27/8/59. 2 months later the loco was named 'Ariadne' without ceremony at Gorton Works. After a period of storage at Bury the loco was sold to Nederlands Railways it was shipped from Harwich 23/9/69. It was overhauled at Tilburg works and commenced work as NS 1505 in April 1971, withdrawal from NS service came on 14/6/86. The process was then reversed and it and it was returned to the UK on the Zeebrugge - Harwich Train Ferry it was then transhipped to Manchester and now resides in the Greater Manchester Museum of Science and Technology. ©Ian Turnbull/Railphotoprints.co.uk
