47531 Barrow Early-1963 GEC
Although not in the county when taken in 1963, Barrow-in-Furness is very much part of Cumbria now. The shed also came under the control of Carlisle District Superintendent .Being slightly off the beaten track, photographs taken within the depot are rarely seen. 'Jinty' 0-6-0 tank No.47531 is seen keeping company with 4F 0-6-0 No.44447 at the end of one of the ten roads. The shed was located on the south side of the old Furness Railway Works, adjacent to Barrow Docks and 'Target 38' was presumably a Dock shunting duty. The 'Jinty' was transferred to Warrington Dallam just before Barrow closed to steam on 12 December 1966, but later found its way back north to Carlisle Kingmoor. ©Gordon Edgar collection
