34092 Wennington 121281 RPC528
Unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific 34092 'City of Wells' leaves Wennington with a Carnforth - Leeds special working after an unscheduled pathing stop, 12/12/81. On 12 December 1981, 34092 was booked to work a Carnforth to Leeds and return excursion. Temperatures at Carnforth fell close to zero Fahrenheit overnight and the connecting train from the south was badly delayed. The Tour set of very late and at Wennington was shunted across wrong line to permit the scheduled dmu for Leeds to overtake. The photograph shows the train setting off again. The tour turned back at Skipton as no water as available in the Leeds area due to the severe frost. Many thanks to Richard Greenwood for this information, and, of course the preservation of 34092. ©www.railphotoprints.co.uk - Colin Whitfield
