Built as a Prototype by Brush Traction D0280 'Falcon' was powered by 2 MD655 Maybach engines (same as the Class 52's) delivering a total of 2800HP. Introduced in September 1961, it was tested on Eastern, Midland and Western Regions, from 1965 the loco was based on the Western Region and following cessation of testing BR purchased the loco (at Scrap Value) and it was rebuilt with Air Brakes and the vacuum brakes were removed, it was repainted in Blue and renumbered as 1200, it contnued to be allocated to Bristol Bath Road but was re-allocated to South Wales in 5/72, after a period of storage it was finally withdrawn in October 1975. Iy saw regular use on the Bristol - Paddington services being photographed passing Southall with a westbound train on 28/6/71.
