Stratford shed's tradition of turning out the Liverpool Street station pilot loco in immaculate condition was maintained well into the diesel era. On 24 February 1978 class 08 shunter 08531 rests between its pilot duties at the Great Eastern station. Delivered new from B.R. Darlington works in April 1959 as D3693, this veteran 'Gronk' remarkably survives and now wears the striking Freightliner Powerhaul livery and in 2015 was still on the former B.R.
