Army Department 156 'Mc.Murdo', built by Hunslet, works No.3202, seen at Longmoor Camp depot on 30th April 1966. Delivered new in December 1944 bearing MoS No.71438, it served at Moreton-on-Lugg, Burton Dassett near Kineton, Bramley and Bicester, where it carried the name 'Sapper' by September 1952. Upon transfer to the Longmoor Military Railway during late 1959 it was renamed 'Tobruk', and in July 1965 it was renamed again, this time 'McMurdo', after Col. W.M. McMurdo, first Commandant of the Engineer Railway Volunteer Staff Corps. Its claim to fame was featuring in the film 'Runaway Children', filmed at Longmoor during December 1964. By the time this photo was taken it had been fitted with Westinghouse air brakes and was used for fitter training at the camp. It was desptached for scrap to Pollock Brown, Southampton in March 1968 and may well have travelled by rail, being observed in Northam Goods Yard in April 1968.
