50022 Moorswater Viaduct 180485 JC228

Large Logo Class 50 50022 'Anson' crosses Moorswater Viaduct as it approaches Liskeard with the 07.30 Penzance - Aberdeen service. Note the old bridge abutments a reminder of the original bridge which was built under the auspices of the Brunel Designed Cornwall Railway (Plymouth - Truro), the original short lived bridge comprised 14 buttressed piers, the remains of which are seen in the photograph. A replacement 8 arch stone bridge was built and opened in 1881 on a slightly more northerly alignment, upon completion of the replacement the original bridge was dismantled leaving some of the original piers 'in situ'. The current (new) bridge and the remaining piers from the first Bridge were given listed Grade II status in 1985. 18/4/85. ©John Chalcraft/www.railphotoprints.co.uk
