Former Western Region 0-6-0PT 1649 at Helmsdale, 1958, two of these small tank engines (1646 & 1649) were transferred to the Far North from the Western Region in 1957 and 1958 respectively. Their prime duties were on the Dornoch branch services where they replaced a Standard 2 2-6-0 which in turn had replaced 2 former Highland Railway 0-4-4T's (55051 and 55053). ©www.railphotoprints.co.uk - Keith Jones Cresselley collection
