6018 Swindon Works 280763 HB583
King 4-6-0 6018 'King Henry VI' with 3836, 3826 and (cab just visible) 6155 inside the Swindon Works erecting shop 28/7/63. The King was originally withdrawn from service at OOC on 18/12/62, but it was later re-instated to operate the SLS 'Farewell to the Kings' railtour which ran on 28/4/63, withdrawal immediately followed the special working and the loco was despatched to the works (presumably for stripping), however rumour has it that Butlins were interested in its purchase but, sadly, the transaction was never completed and 6018 is believed to have been cut up at Swindon's infamous 'C' shop in September 1963. ©Hugh Ballantyne/Rail Photoprints
