A number of the Southern Region designed and built 'class 401' 2-BIL two-car suburban units carried the all over rail blue livery for the latter part of their careers. Here ex-works unit number 2141, built in 1938, is captured leaving Guildford on a shuttle service to Ascot on 18th July 1970. In the up sidings is 'Nelson' 4-COR unit number 3114, also in blue livery, and my notes suggest that it was stored unserviceable at this time. ©Gordon Edgar/Railphotoprints.co.uk
