The Bowaters Paper Railway was a 2ft 6in narrow gauge railway system used for the transport of (primarily) raw materials for the paper mills, it ran between Ridham Dock and Sittingbourne, a distance of 10 miles. Following a feasability study in 1968 the decision was made to close the line wef 25th October 1969, arrangements were made for the leasing of part of the line by the LCGB, and subsequent leisure operations were operated under the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway banner.

On 4/10/69 Bowaters organised an official 'Handing over' ceremony with the LCGB, this included the running of special trains, 'Triumph' an o-6-2T built by Bagnall (2511 B 1934) is seen with one of the special trains. ©Hugh Ballantyne/Rail Photoprints
