There was still eight years of life for Thornaby TMD when I took this transparency on 25th August 2000. Construction of the diesel depot, built alongside the steam roundhouse, commenced in 1957. When opened it had the largest allocation of any single depot in the country. It closed to steam in December 1964. In the line up of stored locomotives in this scene are 37899, 37351(in Dutch Transrail livery), Loadhaul M55997 (former Cumbrian Coast Cravens Motor Parcels Van), 37416 and others. It is notworthy that only one class 66 is to be seen! The depot building was razed to the ground in 2011.
