In original condition Merchant Navy Pacific 35018 'British India Line' heads west through Vauxhall at the head of the Devon Belle, circa 1953. Despite being advertised as non stop to Exeter the train normally called unadvertised at Wilton where there was a loco change, the loco which had worked from Waterloo retiring to Salisbury shed for servicing. 35018 was the first 'Merchant Navy' to be rebuilt emerging from Eastleigh Works in January 1956. ©John Day Collection/Rail Photoprints
