Class 117 Pensford Viaduct 060468 HB765

Class 117 Pensford Viaduct 060468 HB765

Formed of 51367+59513+59543+51409 the RCTS's 'Thames and Avon Railtour' from Paddington crosses Pensford Viaduct as it heads into Bristol along the North Somerset (Frome - Radstock - Bristol) branch, 6/4/68. 43 years after the closure of the branch line to all traffic (1973) the Viaduct still stands but the bridge itself is fenced denying access, the Main A37 Trunk Road runs through Pensford Village behind the Viaduct and is a constant traffic nightmare for residents, none of the local authorities have been willing to suggest re-routing heavy lorry traffic across the viaduct although it seems a logical solution to the areas problems. ©Hugh Ballantyne/Rail Photoprints
