Class 405 4648 Clapham Junction 230381 GE648
A railfan notes down the number as a Dorking to Waterloo service (stencil headcode 17) formed of class 405 (4-SUB) unit 4648 heads away from its Clapham Junction station stop on a damp and dismal 23 March 1981. Withdrawal of the class 405 fleet was spread over a period of eleven years. The last units to remain in service were those on the Central Division, final extinction coming on 6 September 1983. ©Gordon Edgar/Rail Photoprints
