APT Advanced Pasenger Train
370005 Wolverton-Works 170895 GE005
The recently submitted planning application to demolish the ex-London Birmingham Railway workshops and 'develop' the land for residential housing and a supermarket has brought the oldest continously operated railway works in the world into focus. During arguably happier times, a far from presentable BR Inter City APT (370005 with driving car 48105 leading) was on display to the visiting public at the works on 17 August 1985. Shortly after this the handful of APT-Ps in service were withdrawn and quietly scrapped without any publicity from 1986. ©Gordon Edgar/Rail Photoprints
