2746 FAIRWAY RPC 039 CIRCA 1937. I believe that the location is Glasgow's EASTFIELD loco shed, the yard office is unique. The clock tower appearing above the locomotive and the belted decoration of the brickwork can be seen behind the tender. An unusual viewpoint its from the North West, the photographer must have been pretty close to the running line towards Cowlairs and the incline down to Queen St. Because of this I would suggest a Scottish Sunday afternoon or evening with only core long distance movements active. The A3 would have been typical motive power for the evening Queen St to Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross working. This was a very busy East Coast working used by passengers due to start their weeks work from Monday morning in Edinburgh, Newcastle and the South.

Pretty sure this is Farington Curve Junction, the train is dropping down towards Preston off the East Lancs line, with the Ormskirk/Liverpool Exchange line to the right.

Picture of Flag Lane bridge, you can just about make out the smaller utilities bridge behind it -
