British Railways Diesel Hydraulic Type 4 2200HP built for the Western Region by BR's Swindon Works, powered by 2 Maybach MD650 diesel engines with Mekydro K104/11 Hydraulic transmission. 38 locos built, class introduced in 1958. Hydraulics were declared 'non standard' by BRB which meant that they were all withdrawn by the end of 1972, 832 survived a little longer at the Derby RTC. 821 and 832 survived into preservation.
