This study of light and shade at Redhill station circa 1960 is a pure delight, with so much to see. Maunsell 'N1' 2-6-0 31876 of Tonbridge shed (73J) heads off towards Redhill shed, with a Standard class 5 4-6-0 standing at the signals and what looks like a Maunsell 'L1' 4-4-0 moving off shed to take a service back to its home shed at Tonbridge. Redhill was a station of much activity - in addition to the London-Brighton line stopping services, the cross-country route between Reading-Guildford-Redhill-Tonbridge required a reversal and loco change. ©Gordon Edgar Collection/Rail Photoprints
