In Trainload Coal grey with sector decals, class 58 58016 stands at the British Coal Bevercotes Colliery loading point on 2 March 1990. The class 58 was introduced into BR service at Toton in October 1984. 58016 was the first class 58 to be preserved following an EWS tender in 2010, it is now in the hands of the class 58 Locomotive Group and undergoing restoration at Barrow Hill. ©Gordon Edgarl/Rail Photoprints

Bevercotes Colliery in Nottinghamshire was one of the most modern in Europe, and the National Coal Board made an effort to recruit miners from closed mines in the North East upon its opening in the early 1960s. Closure came in 1993 and it is now the site of a managed nature reserve.
