Metropolitan Vickers Co-Bo 1200 HP Diesel Electric, ordered under the Modernisation Plan, the Class was one of the failures produced under the plan, 20 locomotives were built by Metropolitan Vickers Stockton in 1958/59, all were withdrawn in 1968, one (D5705) survived in use as a train heating unit and is now undergoing preservation.
