25073 Gloucester 190879 GE
Just over a decade and a half steam locomotives would have been standing on these roads in a covered motive power depot, which closed to steam in December 1965. In 1979 a surprising variety of BR diesel motive power could be found stabled there. In this line on Sunday 19th August 1979 there was 25073 (Toton), 25192 (Crewe) and 31326 (from March). Other occupants of the stabling point on this day were PWM650, 08836, 08364, 08486, 08429 (from Shirebrook), 47214 (Crewe), 47252 (Cardiff), 47365 (Toton), 31423 (Bristol) and 50032 (Old Oak Common). 25073 was new to Toton depot in July 1963 as D5223 and its eighteen year career was spent at London Midland region depots, mainly in the Midlands and London area. It was withdrawn just two years after this, in September 1981 and was placed into store at Bescot. It final journey, via Gloucester and this depot, was with 25169 and 08585 to Swindon Works on Christmas Eve 1981 and it was finally disposed of at Swindon during August 1982.
