D7633 D7636 Wath 0366 GE633
Sulzer Type 2s D7633 and D7636 at Wath Depot in March 1966. Built by Beyer-Peacock at Gorton, D7633 was delivered to Tinsley MPD in September 1965 and transferred to Wath in April 1966. D7633 was transferred to the Midland Lines (Toton) and would spend the rest of its career a London Midland Region engine, in the main allocated to Wigan Springs Branch. 25283 survived in traffic for a further eight years following its classified repair at Glasgow Works in December 1978. In the Autumn of 1985 twelve class 25/3’s were given E exams and were restricted to 60mph to minimise traction motor problems and classified class 25/9. 25283 was one of these locomotives and became 25904. The specific duties planned for the class 25/9's did not reach the expected levels so the sub class soon migrated back to normal duties, losing their special mechanical attention. In March 1987 the decision was taken to finally dispense with the class and the remaining locomotives were to be withdrawn as soon as practicable. By the 23rd March 1987 only two survived in traffic, 25904 and 25912, and they were withdrawn that day. Following withdrawal 25904 was purchased for preservation and has spent time on the Dean Forest and Severn Valley Railways. ©Charlie Cross/Gordon Edgar Collection/Rail Photoprints
