Just a few weeks before its withdrawal from service,class 25/2 25138 stands alongside Crewe Station A signal box in charge of a short down mail train on 22 October 1983. The Sulzer Type 2 was introduced to BR service in July 1964 as D5288. Withdrawn in December 1983, it spent just over a year dumped at Crewe depot, then being moved to Swindon in February 1985 and broken up during November 1986.
