Introduced in May 1959 Baby Deltic (Class 23) D5901 was refurbished in 4/64, it was withdrawn from revenue stock in 12/69 it then spent a further 5 years at Derby RTC before being finally withdrawn in 11/75, moving to Doncaster Works in Feb 1976, it was finally cut up in Feb 1977 thereby rendering the Class 23 extinct.
