National Power 59201 Vale of York working to Ferrybridge power station through Castleford on 23 July 1997. The class of six 59/2s were built by GM in Canada for block coal operations in Yorkshire and were based at Ferrybridge. In April 1998 EWS took over the National Power rail operations and, with the locomotives under their management, the assets were more widely used over the network. From 2005 they were allocated to work beside the Mendip Rail fleet based at Merehead in Somerset.
