The driver of Class 55 'Deltic' No.55007 'Pinza' opens up the throttle and creates a wonderful sight and sound under the fine overall roof of York station on 14th June 1980. The locomotive had earlier worked in the 14:05 from Kings Cross and was to return to the capital after refuelling. Built at English Electric Vulcan Foundry and introduced to BR service on 22nd June 1961, allocated to Finsbury Park (34G), she was withdrawn from service on 31st December 1981 and scrapped during the following August at the Doncaster 'Plant'. ©Gordon Edgar/Rail Photoprints
