PS Waverley Bristol Docks 1995 JC223

The Paddle Steamer 'Waverley' was a regular visitor to Bristol's Floating Harbour during her pleasure cruises, she is seen moored at Broad Quay during one of her trips, circa 1990. Brunel had late involvement with the Floating Harbour project, which while the Harbour was completed and in use from 1809 was found to have severe silting problems. In 1848 Brunel was emplyed by Bristol City Council to devise a solution to the silting problem, Brunels answer was to rebuild the Lock Gates, introduce sluice gates to reduce the silting up process, and introduce a dredger to clear silt from the quay walls. ©John Chalcraft/www.railphotoprints.co.uk
