P A Campbell's Paddle Steamer 'Ravenswood' on decision at Bristol City Docks in 1955, she was withdrawn in May 1955 after a failed safety survey, leaving Bristol in October of that year for scrapping at Newport. Brunel had late involvement with the Floating Harbour project, which while the Harbour was completed and in use from 1809 was found to have severe silting problems. In 1848 Brunel was emplyed by Bristol City Council to devise a solution to the silting problem, Brunels answer was to rebuild the Lock Gates, introduce sluice gates to reduce the silting up process, and introduce a dredger to clear silt from the quay walls. ©John Chalcraft/www.railphotoprints.co.uk©www.railphotoprints.co.uk - collection
