Class 37 37254 arrives at Bristols Harbourside with a test train to check track condition in advance of special workings, 5/3/83. Brunel had late involvement with the Floating Harbour project, which while the Harbour was completed and in use from 1809 was found to have severe silting problems. In 1848 Brunel was emplyed by Bristol City Council to devise a solution to the silting problem, Brunels answer was to rebuild the Lock Gates, introduce sluice gates to reduce the silting up process, and introduce a dredger to clear silt from the quay walls. ©John Chalcraft/www.railphotoprints.co.uk
