A pair of B.R. Sulzer Type 2 class 24s 24102 and 24107 head a Tyne Dock Bottom to Consett Low Yard loaded iron ore train circa late 1973/early 1974. The Sulzers (D5102-D5111) took over from the 9Fs and worked the iron ore trains for the period between 1966 and 1974, usually operating in pairs with eight or nine wagons; no other locomotives could operate the side-discharge hopper wagon doors. ©Harry Milligan - Gordon Edgar Collection/Rail Photoprints
